Privacy Policy
Your mornings stay yours
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Sagebrush Labs ("we," "us") handles information when you use the Sunlight mobile app (also listed as Sunlight Alarm on Google Play) and the website at sunlight.app. Sunlight is an outdoor wake alarm and morning journal: the alarm stops after a live outdoor verification photo, and you can track streaks and saved mornings.
What we collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may process:
- Account details: email address, display name, and optional profile photo you choose to provide.
- Alarm & habit data: alarm times, challenge settings, streak progress, and related preferences.
- Outdoor verification photos: live camera images you capture to stop the alarm and (when saved) journal entries. Gallery uploads are not accepted for verification.
- Optional device signals: approximate location and motion or step data when you enable harder challenge modes that verify movement.
- Anti-cheat metadata: for failed or rejected captures we may keep a hash and timestamp (not the full photo) to discourage reuse of old images.
- Device & diagnostics: basic device identifiers, app version, and crash or reliability signals needed to operate the service.
- Purchases: subscription status managed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your full payment card details.
How we use it
We use this information to run the outdoor wake challenge, verify that you are outdoors, show streaks and journal history, personalize the experience, improve reliability and prevent abuse, provide customer support, and manage Pro subscriptions through Apple or Google. Outdoor photos may be analyzed by a secure server-side vision model only to determine whether the scene appears outdoors; that analysis is not used to train models on your identity.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us operate Sunlight (for example cloud hosting, authentication, and AI verification), with Apple or Google for subscription billing, or when required by law. Verified morning photos are private to your account and are not made public.
Data retention
We retain your information only as long as needed to provide Sunlight and for legitimate operational, security, and legal purposes:
- Account, alarms, streaks, and preferences are kept for the life of your account.
- Verified morning photos and journal entries remain while your account is active (subject to free-tier history limits described in the app).
- Failed verification photos are not permanently stored; only minimal anti-cheat metadata (such as a hash and timestamp) may be retained.
- Optional location and motion readings are used at verification time and are not kept as a long-term location history.
- When you delete your account, we remove associated account data and morning photos from our active systems as described below. Limited backup or log copies may persist for a short period (typically up to 30 days) before being purged, unless a longer period is required by law.
Data deletion
You can request deletion of your Sunlight account and associated personal data at any time:
- In the app: open Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, alarms, streak data, and morning photos. This cannot be undone.
- By email: send a deletion request to privacy@sunlight.app or support@sunlight.app from the email address on your account. Include "Delete my Sunlight account" and your account email. We aim to complete verified requests within 30 days.
Subscription cancellations and refunds are handled by Apple or Google through their store settings; deleting your Sunlight account does not automatically cancel a store subscription.
Your choices
You can update profile details in Settings, disable optional location or motion challenge features, manage notification permissions in your device settings, and delete your account as described above. Camera access is required for outdoor verification.
Children
Sunlight is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Sunlight after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
